I Did it; A Blog Award AND Rejection Widget?

I did it. I pushed the button. Sent the first 100 pages to an agent who requested them. It's my first submission ever. I feel like I've stepped off a ledge.

Also, I got a lovely blog award from Jen at Jen's Bookshelf. Thanks Jen! See below for blog award details.

And finally. Now that I have stepped off that ledge (opened the door, whatever image you want to use) I need a way to keep track of my rejections. Anyone know of a widget for this kind of thing? One that lists number of queries, requests, rejections received? A place to put medicinal gin&tonics/cookies (pick your poison) would be helpful too. I'm keeping track on Querytracker, but wanted something on the blog.

The goal of the award is to spotlight up and coming bloggers who currently have less than 200 followers. The rules of the award are:

1. Thank the giver and link back to the blogger who gave it to you.
2. Reveal your top 5 picks and let them know by leaving a comment on their blog.
3. Copy and paste the award on your blog.
4. Have faith that your followers will spread the love to other bloggers.
5. And most of all - have bloggity-blog fun!

So here's my list of five blogs that are uber cool:

1. Lisa over at Kicked, Cornered, Bitten and Chased - She's an awesome writer and there are cute animal pics on her site.
2. Bird's Eye View - Michelle gave the most detailed, line by line feedback during a recent query contest. She's on it!
3. Crit group bestie, Laura Campbell at Writing Unleashed.
4. The lovely and talented Jenna Cooper at Finding the Write Way
5. Bryce at the Bryce Daniels Preservation Society. He needs to be preserved. Probably in aspic.

Go forth, lad and lasses and have bloggity fun.

  2. Congrats on pushing the button. And on the award.

I use QueryTracker as my main spreadsheet. I've never seen a widget for a blog. I know some people make their own spreadsheets, but QT has everything on it that I need. I also pay the twenty dollars to be a premium member, just because I like running the various reports -- it's all part of being an effective stalker. :)

  3. Best wishes for your submission! Hope it meets the approval of your agent. And congrats as well on the award!

Thanks for bestowing this honor on me, but seriously? Aspic? Couldn't we go with, oh, I dunno, chocolate pudding or orange marmalade?

  5. A huge congratulations on the request for a partial! One hundred pages shows a serious interest, IMO.

I use a Word table to track my submissions, but if I see a cool-looking Widget, I'll be sure to let you know.

And thank you not only for the blog award but for the incredibly sweet words you wrote.

P.S. I've left a response to your comment on Bird’s-eye View at http://michellefayard.blogspot.com/2011/07/getting-blog-comments-to-work-for-you.html.

  6. @LG - so you went premium on querytracker, aye? would love to know how much more you get as I've been considering it...
@Ru, Michelle, Anna - thanks for the virtual pats on the back. You'll all be sending me kleenex when I get my firsts rejection, right?
@Bryce - what, you don't like aspic? OK, I don't even know if I've ever had aspic, just sounded cool. Next time, we preserve you in strawberry jam or amontillado - what? too Poe-ish? I kid, I josh, I heart you. Good luck on the move.

  9. I'll get working on a widget that plays a trumpet fanfare, books us in for a weekend at the Palomar and opens a bottle of champagne for when your deal comes through. I'd better get hopping on it though...

    Lots of love and congratulations,
    Txx
