A is for ACK!

How did April sneak up on me? I've been signed up for this A-Z challenge for months and suddenly it's here?

In case you don't know what this challenge is about (seriously? where have you been?) it's hosted by Arlee and others and it's a fun way to keep the writing short, sharp and shocked and to meet new peeps. Here's more info.

I love this challenge. I love the "Oh crap, what am I going to write today?" I wake up to every day. Last year I had some of my funnest (warning: not a real word) posts during the challenge. And I think i missed maybe one or two days. So I'll start with a basic question - in A-Z challenge and all things writerly - are you a pantser or a planner/plotter? Did you finish your post for 'Z' sometime in February ore are you now trying to come up with something other than Xylophone for 'X'?

Hop around the other blogs here and say hi to my fellow alphabits.
I'll also be posting some of my favorite musical artists - starting with:

  1. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with any kind of musical theme :-)

Although, uh, I have no theme :-)

  2. LOL When it comes to blogging, I am a total and completely pantser. I signed up for the AtoZ challenge over a month ago and have no posts pre-planned. Though I promised my husband he could have "J is for 'Joel is cool'"

Writing in general, I always thought I was a pantser. But I just finished the first draft of a WIP in which I adapted a narrative from a musical production. I outlined the whole thing and gave myself a general outline of what I wanted in each chapter. Then, before writing each one, I wrote a more detailed outline of how I planned the chapter to proceed. I surprised myself by finding I really liked writing the fiction that way.

So I guess I'm a bit of both?

  3. I am definitely, definitely, definitely, not a planner, which is why I couldn't do the challenge. But I still think its awesome, and it is still a good way for me to find other awesome blogs, like yours!

  4. I've planned most of the blogs for this month, already written a few, but I'm sure there are going to be some that will be last-minute. I hope you have a great month, Alex! :)

  6. I both procrastinate and plan {does that make sense?}! It is very weird because most of the time I start by planning, but I end up procrastinating! I have found, though, that some of my best work comes when I am down to the wire and only have a short time to get it done!

  7. I love Richard Ashcroft!

I am a total pantser when it comes to this kind of thing, but I did come up with a theme yesterday, so that helps a little! :D

  8. I'm usually a pantser, but I did a lot of planning for the A-Z Challenge this year. I'm writing a daily piece of microfiction, each one themed around a place name, and rather than hunt for the placenames myself, I invited contributions for blog readers (lazy AND interactive!). I had to give some advance notice once I decided I was asking for help!

And on my current novel, I mostly know the ending, I'm about 20,000 words away from it but I have a reasonable idea where the novel is going. This is quite unusual for me!
